The unit's primary function is to penetrate enemy lines to gather crucial intelligence so as to give the IDF the strategic upper - hand in combat situations. Sayeret Matkal's most reknown mission was Operation Entebbe, rescuing over 100 hostages from the Airport in Entebbe , Uganda.
